Teaching aims:
1. Make students master some important words, phrases and sentences.
2. Make students know some environmental problems and their bad effects.
3. Enable students to realize the importance of protecting the environment.
Key points:
Train students’ listening skills. (listen for general idea & details) and speaking ability.
Difficult points:
Improve students’ listening ability.

Task 1: Listening and vocabulary
Step1: Lead-in
Draw a picture on the blackboard,let students talk about it
Step 2: Pre-listening
Deal with the words related to the listening material. Let students do the match game in Activity 1. Make them predict what they will listen to.
Step 3: While-listening
1. Listen for general idea. Let students finish Activity 2, put the topics in the order they hear them. Remind: This is just for the main idea of the passage not the details.
2. Listen for detailed information.
Make sure all the students have understood the questions in A3. Then listen again and answer questions in A3, and complete the sentences in A 4.
Step4:Post-listening
1. Everyday English
The expressions in this section are from the listening text. Let students choose the
right answers immediately they finish the listening so that they can consolidate what
they’ve listened.
2. Tapescript. Lead students to read the tapescript.
Task 2: Speaking 2
In the listening, we have learnt something that is damaging our environment or earth, let students summarize them. What’s more, the words used to describe them are also needed.
With the words in the second box in A1, Speaking 2 and those listed above, let students discuss in pairs and talk about how these things are bad for the environment.
Step5: Summary.
Step6: Homework.
Memorize new words and phrases in this period.
Try to think of ways to stop pollution we mentioned in Speaking 2.
